Intro to Clinical Treatment of Eating Disorders Course

About the Course

Participants will build confidence recognizing and understanding eating disorders through a practical, self-paced online course. This two hour training will cover a variety of topics including diagnostic criteria of eating disorders, assessment tools, risk factors for development and maintenance of an eating disorder, medical complications, and more.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe diagnostic criteria for six major eating disorders.

  • Identify risk factors for development of an eating disorder.

  • Learn about various assessment tools for eating disorders and how to utilize them with clients.

  • Gain an understanding of diet culture and the role it plays in development and maintenance of eating disorders.

  • Name and describe various levels of care for eating disorder treatment and roles of the full treatment team.

  • Identify medical complications that occur in eating disorders.

  • Name and describe five stages of change and how these apply to eating disorders.

Continuing Education Credit

Participants will earn 2 CEs and CEs are available for anyone holding a Texas LPC, LMFT, or SW license. Clinicians pursuing or renewing their CEDS may also use this course for CEDS credit.

About the Speaker

Angela Harris specializes in treating eating disorders in adolescents and adults as a LCSW and Certified Eating Disorder Specialist Consultant (CEDS-C). Angela’s clinical experience ranges from higher levels of care to outpatient care in the private practice setting. Angela works with the full spectrum of eating disorders in adolescents and adults including anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, orthorexia, avoidant restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID), other specified feeding or eating disorder (OSFED), disordered eating, compulsive exercise and body image concerns. Angela treats eating disorders through an anti-diet, Intuitive Eating, and Health at Every Size framework.
