Dissociative Disorders

Dissociative disorders show up in a variety of presentations and all ultimately stem from traumatic experiences. I treat each client as a system in which all parts of self are honored and invited into the healing process.

What are dissociative disorders?

Dissociative disorders are those in which the person experiences a sense of depersonalization and/or derealization in a way that interferes with daily functioning. They include difficulties with memory, identity, emotion, perception, behavior and sense of self. These symptoms are often results of trauma and are therefore important to be treated in a trauma informed manner.

What does treatment look like?

I treat dissociative concerns through a “parts work” lens which honors and explores each of the internal parts of a system. We often set goals of working towards improvement on internal collaboration and communication between parts. I work with dissociation across the spectrum including structural dissociation diagnoses such as DID and OSDD.

Where can I learn more?

The International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation provides thorough information and a variety of resources about dissociation.
